A One-Woman Parang Show

In this virtual holiday concert, artist-scholar Danielle Brown, Ph.D. provides an exciting window into the Christmas musical tradition of parang (Sp. parranda). Part of the Spanish musical legacy in Trinidad & Tobago, traditionally parang is sung in Spanish by groups of parranderos who travel from house-to-house offering residents the gift of song. The genre has since spurred a wide number of fusions, including English-language variants. Join Brown as she takes the audience on a musical journey of traditional parang, soca parang, and more, all while educating the public on the history and performance of this musical treasure.
