Caribbean Music 101

Caribbean Music 101 is the first webinar in the Caribbean Music Webinar Series. It is a prerequisite for all other courses, and introduces the student to several folk and popular music genres found throughout the English, Spanish, and French Caribbean. Through an exploration of the music of the region, participants will simultaneously gain an overview of the region's history, politics, and overall culture. Classes are taught by musician and ethnomusicologist, Danielle Brown, Ph.D.

The course consists of eight classes, and each class is an hour in length. Participants will leave with a bibliography and discography for future studies, and will have access to exclusive My People Tell Stories playlists on Spotify. No music experience is needed. Just come with an open mind and ready to learn!

To accommodate participants in different time zones, classes will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm-8pm Eastern Time AND 7pm-8pm Greenwich Mean Time. Please select your preferred time zone when registering. Subscribe to our email list to stay informed of our next starting date.
